Thank you to all who supported our PGI 2016. We “oohed” and “aahed” over the cleverly created outfits from our local designers, sampled the delicious cheesecake made from love by our communities, laughed till we ached from Charlie Demer’s comedy. Audience were serenaded by Murray McLauchlan’s beautiful music and our local performers Wayne Harris and the Steel Toe Troubadours, then cried and celebrated with our Learner Award recipient Laura Beaton. What a fabulous weekend for a good cause! Literacy Haida Gwaii is a non-profit organization whose services are extended to all learners on the island of over 4,000 people – children, adolescents, adults and families. Literacy on Haida Gwaii means learning the traditional language, developing new job skills for islanders, understanding health and financial issues, and supporting adult learners who have decided to go back to school for their GED, high school credits or learn a trade. This is our third PGI fundraiser for island literacy initiatives. All the money we raise stays entirely in Haida Gwaii to address literacy programs for islanders.
