Sheree Fitch

Yellowknife; Cambridge Bay: Yellowknife:  Nova Scotia, New Brunswick…and more

Sheree Fitch is a prized Canadian author and outspoken literacy advocate. Fitch is active in the promotion of literacy through her writing and performing for children, as well as through her support of literacy organizations.

In the 1990s she was a frequent guest and member of a discussion panel on Peter Gzowski’s Morningside radio program on CBC Radio One. As a result, she became involved in the Peter Gzowski Invitational (PGI) golf tournaments, which raises funds for literacy organizations.

Peter Gzowski was a lover of poetry, which is why every year at the PGI, someone takes on the role of the Poet Laureate. Fitch’s work as a literacy educator has brought her to the Arctic eight times as poet laureate for PGI events.

Currently, Fitch is Honorary Spokesperson for the New Brunswick Coalition for Literacy.  St. Thomas University awarded her an honorary doctorate in May 2010, citing her contributions as an author, educator, and “tireless advocate for literacy”
