Valdy

Frontier College PGI at The Briars: Yukon, Victoria…and more

Valdy is quoted as saying that literacy is the path to world peace because if we can understand each other we can get along and if we can communicate we can understand each other.

Valdy, born Valdemar Horsdal in Ottawa, Canada has been part of the fabric of Canadian pop and folk music for over 34 years. The winner of two Juno Awards and member of the Order of Canada, Valdy is a passionate advocate of reading and literacy.

Valdy was first introduced to raising funds for the cause of literacy in 1988 through Peter Gzowski, when he was invited to the late CBC Radio Morningside host’s annual invitational golf tournament. In fact, the title track on his 2012 album Read Between the Lines was written for the PGI.

Today, he is based on Salt Spring Island, where he lives with his wife Kathleen, three dogs. All three children are grown, flown and doing famously, living in or near Vancouver, or Colorado.
